The Countess Confessions A Boscastle Affairs Novel Jillian Hunter 9780451415332 Books
This book was like a breath of fresh air for me yesterday. I haven't read anything quite so much fun in a while. This series has been pretty good and I like this author. The h in this book is plotting to get the husband she wants and risks her reputation by setting up a fake fortunetellers tent at her friend's family's ball. Her idea is to do a fake fortune for the man she wants by telling him that she is the woman of his dreams. Up to this point the man doesn't even notice her. Of course things go wrong and she ends up with the H in the tent while he tries to stay hidden from some treason conspirators. Both main characters are in disguise. It's a tangled series of events that has them getting married but there are so many laugh out loud moments. It's a romance with a background of a conspiracy plot. Some lovely secondary characters and a secondary romance for the h's lady's maid too.I should have been packing for a trip I'm taking today and I should have been cooking dinner and a load of washing but It all got put on hold until I finished this lovely book.
It's a fun read with no mistresses, misunderstandings or major drama. I highly recommend it.

It is a great pleasure visiting Boscastles characters that have claimed my attention for years. Each hero and heroine has a definite quirk in their giddyup. I do a regular reread of all Boscastles books, and to have a new one, really is a gift.
another Bocastle Novel.......I have not read a bad one yet!!! Can't put them down until I read the whole thing
Unlike some historical romance, this Jillian Hunter novel maintains a sense of intense sensual play throughout the story. From the first meeting of hero and heroine there is attraction and the circumstances which bring them to the marriage bed serve as an intriguing part of the story. I love the sexual and emotional relationship that continues to grow stronger as the hero with complete devotion protects the woman he is beginning to love more and more. Really fun and sensual story.
The premise of the Countess Confessions is fun and clever, an innocent girl stumbles into a spy game. The heroine is plucky with a good sense of humor and the hero is honorable but this novel had the potential to be even better.
Emily has a mad infatuation on a young man in her village who never notices her. She and her friend hatch a plan they think will guarantee that Emily's unrequited love will adore her; Emily will disguise herself as a gypsy at a local ball and her "amour" will hear from the gypsy that Emily is his true love. Only problem is the wrong man stumbles into the gypsy tent.
Damien Bocastle is an Earl and a spy and he is on a mission at a ball which comes into jeopardy when he encounters a gypsy who is in the wrong place at the wrong time. To protect her, he must marry her, not really knowing who she is. Damien is noble and just and I liked his intelligence and wit right away. What I found intriguing was that Damien had a very interesting past; he had been a prisoner for years while searching for missing family members. Yet his incarceration and his feelings about this horrible time in his life were never really fully explored. I got the impression that he was kept in terrible conditions but it seemed to not affect him overly much. Exploring this aspect of his past would have added a richer dimension to this tale.
The espionage aspect of this story is well paced and I liked how this couple looked out for each other and were very loyal. They also had confidence in one another. They didn't play silly games with each other either, trying to one up each other or pretending that they were not in real danger from conspirators.
There is also an entertaining secondary romance with a lady's maid and a valet, but by far this story revolves around the main couple who were engaging but I wish there had been a little more depth to the hero's incarceration and how it affected his present relationships.
A good read, I had not read this author before yet I find the book well written and funny! One doesn't get that often in a historical romance novel! She had me laughing throughout the book; isn't that why we read to enjoy ourselves? I certainly did with this one. I hope there will be more to this series soon.
I have enjoyed all her Boscastle books, about an extensive family of brothers and cousins, all handsome and rich, of course, but with a family history of dissolution and rake-ism (rakishness?) whatever. Each of them finds an unusual bride, in unusual circumstances. This one is okay, but I think the series has gotten tired.
This is the story of how Emily and her maid Iris find true love. They have been together for years ,forming scheme after scheme, to find adventure and romance in their small village.Emily meets Damien and all her plans to ensnare the local cricket champion fall to the wayside. She and Damien are forced to quell a rebellion. Fun characters, suspense, and zany comedy make this a great read.
