Tales From The Bedside True Stories From A NightShift ICU Nurse eBook Stephanie Klipple

I bought this book thinking it would be an in-depth collection of stories about the goings on in an ICU dept. with the nurses. What it turned out to be was a random collection of very short glimpses of individual encounters with patients. You really can't get into what it is to work in the ICU . They are like a bunch of short jokes. I would not have purchased this if I had checked the content more.

Tales From The Bedside True Stories From A NightShift ICU Nurse eBook Stephanie Klipple Reviews

A very mixed collection of memories, anecdotes, advice and observations about one of the toughest jobs in the world. Some "chapters" are very short only a paragraph, others are a list and a few occupy almost a page. Some tell about the worst patients and others the best; in all cases the author supports her claim of being a patient advocate first.

I felt there was just something lacking. There is just not enough material here to be considered a book. It seems very stream of consciousness as if it was written on an going basis during those few free moments of time on a shift....Quickly getting down thoughts in reaction to what had just happened. Perhaps a magazine article or an ongoing blog.
The heart of an ICU nurse is revealed in these touching short stories. Should I be in that situation I would hope she is my nurse. It takes a special lady to fill her shoes. God bless her.
A whirlwind of emotions from comedic to tragic whisked this reader through the life and death traumas that pulsate in hospital's Intensive Care Units. The author's use of simple words perfectly mirror her deep commitmen to nursing.
The author shares stories of her patients, families & medical staff in her engaging account of the ICU at night. Her professionalism, concern and capabilities are front and center. I laughed, cried and was often horrified at the events. In our family we have nurses, physicians, and physical therapists and this book will be in their Christmas stockings. It is excellent!
Maybe a little over the top for a layman, but, a "Must Read " for individuals considering a career in nursing. Full of funny anecdotes and wisdom.
The style was unique. Short complete true stories. I enjoyed this. As an RN, I would suggest this is good reading for student nurses. Maybe too many acronyms. I appreciated the emphasis on good patient care!
Sorry, but I had career as a health professional and knew many ICU nurses, so I know they are incredibly smart, talented professionals who have to make split second decisions and work independently in life or death situations. None of that came across in this very short book which reads more as an off the cuff little journal. I had looked forward to this because I know what it takes to be an ICU nurse, but I was grossly disappointed. The stories are all together to short, going nowhere.
I bought this book thinking it would be an in-depth collection of stories about the goings on in an ICU dept. with the nurses.
