This is very well written and a good take on the war back then. The characters were great. It did take me some time to get into the book and Annaliese made me annoyed in some parts when it was a lot of drama from her. Those parts really made me not want to read anymore. I can understand how she acted the ways she did in a way. I thought it was neat how her name is close to my own daughter's name. My daughter's name is Annalisa. How awesome is that!Anyways, if you like war books these are good ones but they are not for me. I knew how this book would end almost half way through it.
I gave 4 stars for the writing. characters and picture in your mind of war when you read the book. I wanted to give it 3 stars but changed my mind.

I found this book to be a compelling read. I'm of German heritage and to get a glimpse of the country after the war was intriguing. My mother lived in Germany for a short period of time before the war. It was exciting. I also found it interesting to watch the relationship of the two main characters, Annalise and Christophe, develop.
Very interesting subject - a period in history that we know so little of - right after WWI. Germany is in turmoil and the promise of Socialism is found attractive to the general populace who are struggling to find food to eat and looking for employment. The job market is dismal and people are struggling to just stay alive. The promise of plenty for everyone makes the message of the Socialist party look very enticing. The people's militia and Germany's military of course clash. This book is a good glimpse into past history of Germany, Socialism, and the coming of Communism into the land.
Master storyteller, full of intrigue and history. I am swept away whenever I read a Maureen Lang novel. She grabs you at the start and you can't let go until the last page. The history is so compelling and engaging that you feel like it is a real life story unfolding before you. Each of Maureen's story's stand alone as a masterpiece that begs to be read more than once. I have never been disappointed!
It took me awhile to connect with the characters, but once I did the connection was strong. Have God so much a part of the lives made the story line even better for me. I loved historical info. I learned. I recommend this author she is very talented and is able to include God into the lives and still educating the reader about the history of the time.
Christophe returned home from the war with no greeting and no welcome. Annaliese jubilantly shouted as the crowd rallied to hear of freedom call. Their cries so different from the communists. Hunger dictates the country as the citizens of Germany celebrate the end of the war. Annaliese has won the attention of an important admirer, looking for a victory in the election, and one who can further the socialists party. Annaliese is reacquainted with someone from her past but could it ruin everything she has worked so hard for? Christophe is sent on a journey to recover what was lost. Will he truly find what he is searching for?
A novel of politics, loyalty and discovery set in the time of the Great War. The scene of the storyline worked very well and I can see myself in the era as I read this book. I found the book to be much better and more entertaining than the other books before it.
I just plain could not get into this book. I made it to almost the halfway point--40% on kindle--and could not force myself to go any farther. The book is set during WWI and there is unrest to say the least, not enough food to go around, and no one trusting their neighbor. Yet the main character, who is by the way a big political activist trying to rally the people to a new way of thinking, seems only to be able to think about whether or not she wants to sleep with a certain other character. I appreciate the author trying to portray abstainence positively while also describing real feelings of someone who is unsure, but I mean it is ALL she seems to think about and that gets old. I did like the story other than that, but I just found it hard to get into. It seemed to lack life.
Springtime of the Spirit, by Maureen Lang is a story that takes place in Germany just after the first world war. A fight between the existing party and the socialists ensues, and when Communism threatens, things rapidly get worse. Christophe Brecht, a German soldier who has gone to Munich to search for family friend Annaliese Duray, quickly finds himself thrust into a situation he doesn't really care for. Annaliese is involved with the socialist party, who is insistent upon creating a socialist Germany. Christophe finds himself thrown into the mix as he attempts to convince Annaliese to come home to her capitalist family.
When voting time comes and the socialist party loses, it's been decided that a joining up with the Communist party would be of benefit. This becomes explosive, and Annaliese and Christophe find themselves in danger, and desperately look for an avenue to get out of Munich. But when they're "stuck" with a wounded party leader, their way out looks impossible.
I LOVED this book, and I'm anxious to read more by Maureen Lang!
